Cheap Comfortable Couches
A couch is one of the most prominent pieces of a room and it's crucial that it's durable, stylish, and comfortable. If you're on limited funds it can be difficult to find a couch that ticks all of those boxes can be tricky.
We talked to two interior designers to help us choose the most comfortable sofas that are affordable and will last for years.
1. IKEA Sofa
If you're looking for a low profile couch that still feels solid and robust this is a great choice. The sofa is soft, comfortable, and comfortable it's easy to imagine a whole family snuggling up on it (it even has an armchair version). The sofa is also compatible with a variety of decor styles and would look amazing with almost any colour of leather or fabric (though if you're going for something more bold you can always add a luxurious cover from Comfort Works).
The sofa isn't as flashy and modern as some of IKEA's other options, but it has a classy look that rivals other more premium rivals. Its low banana-shaped arms and generously sized cushions give it a look that's equal parts elegant and traditional. It's also very affordable and available in a variety of upholstery options, including both fabrics and leather.
What I like about the IKEA website:
IKEA provides a lot of information on the homepage. I find this very useful. Prices and names appear right up front. They also provide measurements to aid in determining whether the furniture is suitable for your space. The materials and construction are explained in detail, which is an added bonus. In many frames, they use a combination solid wood, particleboard and plywood to keep costs low while maintaining the strength. They also specify if the filling is foam or feathers. This can have a significant impact on how sturdy the couch is. I would like them to go a little further and include an explanation of how the individual components are made but they do a decent job overall.
2. World Market Brynn Feather Filled Loveseat
The global ambiance of World Market's website can be a bit overwhelming. There's a lot to process with regard to visual stimulation and information, especially when you're trying to find a new sofa.
The site makes it easy to zoom in by offering a dedicated section for furniture in the top navigation bar. This will take you directly to couches. From there, you can filter by upholstery material, style, and color.
Many World Market sofas feature performance fabrics that are stain-resistant, which is a huge benefit for those with children or pets. The company also does a great job of providing a variety of cushion comforts (foam vs. fiberfill, for example) to fit any taste and budget.
Be aware that the majority of World Market couches require assembly. This could be good or bad, based on how well you're in the ability to put things together. On the other hand the website of the brand showcases each sofa from multiple angles and in close-ups of the details like legs and stitching. You can see how the sofa will appear in your home before you decide to purchase. The website is also transparent when it comes to showing the delivery details. It will let you know the time frame for your sofa to arrive at your home. In-stock items typically ship within a few days and you can take it to a local store for even faster delivery. The website accepts credit cards from major banks, but does not offer third-party financing like Affirm and Klarna. This can be a bummer for those who wish to spread their payments but keep an eye out for promotional offers from the company that could include no or deferred interest for a specific period of time.
3. Capasa Sofa
A khaki green option that Good Housekeeping calls a "truly exceptional dupe" of the cloud couch The sofa is easy to assemble and has deep seats. It's also budget friendly. If you choose to purchase cushions that don't have a foam core, keep in mind they may be sagging over time. Morse suggests looking for a cushion with feather or fiber wrapped around a foam core.
Pro feather and feather fillings are soft and provide a luxurious feeling. Plus, they're air-conditioned and aid in the regulation of temperature. Cons - They're expensive and may trigger allergies in some people. Additionally, they may have to be brushed frequently to keep their shape.
4. Maxwell Ryan Co-Created Loveseat

A sofa is where you will spend the majority of your time on Netflix and is often one of the more expensive furniture pieces in your home. It's therefore worth taking the time to buy a sofa you love--and that you can afford.
Founded by used couches for sale and backed by the prestigious tech accelerator Y Combinator, Burrow aims to be the Ikea of folding couches. The company offers three variations of the couch (a chair as well as a loveseat and a sectional) in varying widths. The design is reminiscent of traditional European styles but is also more contemporary and minimalist, because of the thinner frame rails and tapered spool legs.
Its main selling point is its ability to fold flat to store it. But the real benefit is that, unlike many foldable furniture, this one can be assembled by a single person without tools in just 20 minutes. The goal of the company is that when you buy a Burrow couch, you know it will fit in your home and last for 10 or 20 years. This is a huge leap from the disposable Ikea model.
5. Goop Sofa
Gwyneth Paltrow's contemporary lifestyle brand goop is expanding with a brand new furniture collection. The goop collection of the actor CB2 is a line of furniture and kitchenware that blends the refined style found in Paltrow's sleek home with the North American retailer's millennial-focused approach to design.
The collection, which presented on the goop website today, includes a variety of fashionable and affordable sofas and loveseats. The goop sofa is one of the most striking pieces. It features a contemporary design and white boucle upholstery which will make any living space look more elegant and neutral. The durable fabric has an extremely high rub count which means it's more resistant to wear and tear and will maintain its attractive appearance in time.
In terms of firmness, the collection offers couches with soft and medium levels of support. The goop sofa falls in this category. It provides lots of comfort and promotes an ideal posture. The seat's height and cushion fill ensure that the sofa is supportive and doesn't lose its shape over time.
The goop collection also comes with several modular sectionals, which can be combined to fit any space. One of the most flexible options is a tuxedo-style sofa available in white or black and comes with three seats and two tables. It's a great choice for families since it can be used by multiple people without looking crowded. Mid-century modern designs are also very popular. It's casual and elegant with a clean frame and a sustainable wood design.
